3 Ways To Create Systems For Your Real Estate Business
I think systems are hugely underrated for solo real estate agents.
I've talked about this before, probably not often enough.
This idea that as solo real estate agent looking to make your real estate sales more consistently you need to operate with systems.
I've experienced recently the challenge of seeing someone who's used to operating solo, independently, wanting to transition to a team, how difficult it is to:
1. create those systems and then
2. actually implement those systems.
It's a real challenge because you can run a good business as a solo agent without systems.
You can make some decent income, winging it, with hard work.
You really can do pretty well.
If you don’t need to have systems for someone else to follow, or you're not really that concerned about redundancy or duplicating your efforts or forgetting where you left off, doing hard work, then why do you really need systems?
You probably don’t… but I still think it helps.
The Power of Systems
As I get older and older, time is more important. And forgetting things happens more often. I believe systems help solve these problems.
A good system, for example, a good time management system, a good productivity system helps you not forget, so you don't have to remember.
3 Ways To Create Systems For Your Real Estate Business
STOP AND BLOCK
”I want to create a listing checklist”
“I want to create a content calendar.”
You could stop your entire schedule, block out a chunk of time. It takes time to create a system .
If you try to do all your systems that way, the con of that is you're taking away from your time of actual income producing activities, bringing in leads and appointments.
GO AND ROCK
This is creating as you're going along.
You basically document along the way instead sitting down at the beginning and trying to create the system. You just go and you document what it is that you're doing.
I got into real estate in 1997. I was probably doing a lot of stop and block because I didn't have the tools that we have today. But right now, you could implement the Go and Rock method by pulling out your phone and filming as you do things.
For example, my wife and business partner, Katherine and I are documenting, we're doing the go and rock this afternoon. She's doing a walkthrough and we're going to document what a final walkthrough looks like for our buyer client.
We don't have to block out time as a separate thing. We're going to do it actually in the moment.
Go and Rock is a great method if you're already doing things and have momentum on your side.
BORROW AND UNLOCK
That's where you can plug into like a method, a system that we have More Leads and Appointments using the ClientPath method and you go, “I want to know how to do this”, then we go, “here, It is, just plug into it and unlock it.”That's going to be the quickest way for you to do something.
You don't have to create it.
You don't need to document it.
It's just there.
You borrow it and you unlock it.
THE BIG TAKEAWAY I WANT YOU TO HAVE
Systems are hugely underrated for solo real estate agents.
If you're a solo real estate agent and you don't have a bunch of systems documented in your business and you're thinking, “but it's just me,” I think you're missing out on all the additional benefits of systems. It’s not just about documenting things so someone else can do it.
It's a way for you to de-stress yourself, so you don't have to remember everything. You can get interrupted, but get right back into the flow instead of trying to remember, “where was I” or “how did I do this last time?”
